We are the dreamers of dreams.

I do believe that we make our own luck. Don’t get me wrong, I am a social scientist, I KNOW that some aspects of everyone’s life are influenced by one’s upbringing, social standing and personal background. But a small part (or not so small part) of me believes, that with determination, compassion and fill in your personal blank (in my case it is good old plain stubbornness) you can  achieve pretty much anything.

I think the most important thing is to know what you want. If you could do anything and be anywhere in the world, where would you be? I have been trying to answer these questions myself for quite some time. I can come up with the wildest ideas on the spot, each of the scenarios make me equally happy. I can see myself doing a pilgrimage at the Camino de Santiago. I can see myself researching whale behavior. Or be a hamster sitter for the rest of my life. I can see myself doing a million things but to be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t want to be any other place than I am right now.

No matter how awesome my dreams are, nothing compares to the present. It takes time for people to realize that they have everything they could possibly wish for right in front of them. But me? I am just happy, you know?  It’s not always that easy to see it, your own happiness, that is. But if you ask yourself, where do you want to be right now if you could be anywhere and you can’t imagine a better spot than right where you are, well, chances are you got it pretty good. So, look around you. It’s all happening.

And who is to say that I won’t one day do all of the million things that I dream about? But for now, I will just take a deep breath and allow myself be happy.
